This is an original 1930 color print of John Ringling of the Ringling Brothers-- one of the most well-known traveling circuses of all time. Ringling at the time became one of America's wealthiest men, and was the owner of the circus monopoly. Unfortunately, the Great Depression dealt a severe blow to the circus industry, and Ringling lost most of his fortune. Interestingly, the Ringling Brothers started out traveling around Wisconsin as a music ensemble. John played the bass viola, but soon realized that people would rather watch acrobats than listen to the "Ringling Brothers' Moral, Elevating, Instructive & Fascinating Concert & Variety Performance." They added a menagerie (one, singular hyena at its onset), contortionists and trapeze acts.

This piece was illustrated by Dwight, Mabel. Artist name printed on page - bottom center of image.

Please note that there is printing on the reverse.
